Hon. Mohamed Anil was appointed to the post of Attorney General on November 21, 2013.
Hon. Mohamed Anil began his career as a legal officer (trainee) at the Attorney General’s Office in 1997. Since then, he has gone on to serve in various senior positions including as the Director of the Attorney General’s Office (2006 – 2007) and the Commissioner of Legal Reform, Ministry of Legal Reform, Information and Arts (2007 – 2008). In addition, he has held various professional professions including being a member of the Constitutional Assembly of People’s Special Majlis (2007 – 2008)
Recognized as one of the leading lawyers and legal experts in the country, Hon. Mohamed Anil has extensive experience in the private sector working as a Partner at Attorney-at-Law Axis Chambers of Maldives (2008 – 2011) and as a Partner of the Attorney-at-Law Nasheed Anil and Co. of Maldives (2011 -2013).
In his personal capacity, Hon. Mohamed Anil actively engages in and advocates issues relating to human rights, freedom of expression and democracy. He is a founding member of Democracy House and has also served as a member of the Panel for National Harmony (2013) and as a member of the Executive Committee of the Law Society of Maldives (2006 – 2012)
Hon. Mohamed Anil graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) from Oxford Brookes University, United Kingdom, in 2004 and obtained his Masters from University Of Essex, United Kingdom, in 2011.
He is married with a daughter and a son.
