Faena Fayyaz joined the Attorney General’s Office as a Deputy State Attorney on 12th September 2013. She served as Deputy State Attorney (2013 – 2014), State Attorney (2014 – 2017) and Senior State Attorney (2017 – 2019), before being promoted to the current designation as Senior State Counsel.
Faena Fayyaz is the Head of the Human Rights and International Affairs Division at the Attorney General’s Office.
Her roles and responsibilities include, inter alia, running the day to day affairs of the Human Rights and International Affairs Division, responding to all human rights related complaints / issues raised to the Attorney General, managing all work related to coordinating human rights policies within the Government, operating the State’s Legal Aid mechanism, engaging with the United Nations international human rights mechanism including treaty bodies and special procedures, engaging with all international partners in the fields of human rights, rule of law, democracy and governance and overseeing roll-outs of important legislation.
Born on 26th May 1992, Faena Fayyaz obtained her Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from the University of Reading, United Kingdom in 2013 and completed Master of Laws in Human Rights Law at University College London (UCL), United Kingdom in 2017.
